Toyota Service Tips: Lock-Outs

July 17th, 2021 by

Getting locked out of your car can be a major pain, but you don’t have to panic when you can’t get into your car. At Toyota of Newnan, our Toyota service experts have seen just about everything, and with our tips, you’ll know exactly what to do to get back into your vehicle.

Don’t Panic

A lock-out can be a major pain, but there’s no need to panic. You probably have some way of dealing with this easily, so all you need to do is stay calm, take your time, and figure out your next steps.

Remember Your Spares

If you’ve had your car for a while, it’s unlikely that you only have one key for it. Most Toyota cars come with at least one extra key or a spare key fob.

You can also make copies of your keys. If you’ve done that in the past, you can probably think of someone who has one. A family member, friend, or roommate probably has the spare you need to get back into your vehicle, and they’re only a phone call away.

Think About Who Can Unlock Your Car for You

If you think carefully, you might realize that you have an easy solution for getting back into your vehicle. If you have access to a roadside assistance program through your insurance or because you bought a Certified Pre-Owned model, that can be an easy way to get back into your car.

You might also be subscribed to a service like OnStar®. These types of driver assistance services can actually remotely unlock your car for you.

Check Your Dealership

If all else fails, the dealership that sold you your car can likely get you a spare key. You just need some proof that you own the vehicle, and you’ll be all set from there.

Whether you’re looking for a new car or you need help taking care of your current one, we’re here to help. Talk to our Toyota dealers and service center staff to see what we can do for you today!
