The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Debuts
The last major redesign for the Toyota RAV4 came back in 2013, so it’s due for a new look. Now it’s got one, and the public just got its first look at this year’s New York International Auto Show. Toyota of Newnan takes a closer look at the most popular new Toyota model.
There’s a lot riding on the Toyota RAV4. Crossovers are the next big thing, so much so that this SUV knocked the perennial best-selling Toyota Camry off its perch as the company’s top seller. Its new look borrows heavily from last year’s Toyota FT-AC concept. It’s bigger, and also looks brawnier, thanks to an aggressive front fascia.
The larger stance means more room for passengers and their stuff. Thankfully, either choice of power plant — a capable 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to an 8-speed transmission, or the tandem of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain with CVT — will give ample torque and horsepower.
The suspension is redesigned, and one of the three available AWD systems now offers torque vectoring. Last year’s new Adventure trim is joined this year by a XSE Hybrid trim that the company says will offer the best handling yet for the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.
As before, Toyota Safety Sense™ is standard on all models. Among the features it bundles are pre-collision, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Optional features include an upgraded version of the Toyota Entune™ infotainment system with a larger display.
The gas-powered version hits the streets in the Atlanta area toward the end of this year, with the hybrid model joining the lineup early in 2019.
